7-Azaindole-3-acetic acid derivatives: Potent and selective CRTh2 receptor antagonists

High throughput screening identified a 7-azaindole-3-acetic acid scaffold as a novel CRTh2 receptor antagonist chemotype, which could be optimised to furnish a highly selective compound with good functional potency for inhibition of human eosinophil shape change in whole blood and oral bioavailability in the rat.     

Bile acids in asymmetric synthesis and chiral discrimination

An overview on the use of bile acid‐based compounds able to catalyze transformations, control the stereochemical course of a given reaction, recognize and bind other molecules, is presented. The recent developments in inclusion discrimination of chiral and achiral guests and enantioselective recognition achieved by bile acid are described with suitable examples. ADENOSYLMETHIONINE DECARBOXYLASE IN DEVELOPING RAT BRAIN

Adenosylmethionine decarboxylase from rat brain has been found to be similar to the same enzyme isolated from other rat tissues in regard to kinetic parameters, pH optimum, putrescine requirement, and subcellular location. Evidence is presented that pyridoxal phosphate is not the functional cofactor in enzymatic decarboxylation by the rat brain preparation. The capacity for spermidine synthesis in developing rat brain was determined by measurement of the activity of adenosylmethionine decarboxylase. The activity increased dramatically after 10 days of postnatal age. This increase occurred after the period of maximum nucleic acid synthesis, an observation which suggests that spermidine may have a role in the functional development of the brain.     

The primary structure of crystallizable monoclonal immunoglobulin IgG1 Kol. II. Amino acid sequence of the L-chain, gamma-type, subgroup I

The immunoglobulin Kol was the first intact antibody molecule which was characterized by high-resolution X-ray crystallography. Furthermore the complete amino-acid sequence of the heavy (H)-chain is known. Here we report the complete amino-acid sequence of the light (L)-chain of the monoclonal immunoglobulin Kol (IgG1). The polypeptide has an Mr of 22,781, consists of 216 amino acids and due to its structure is of the lambda-type. With the characteristic amino acids threonine, asparagine, threonine, glycine and lysine in positions 101, 114, 116, 154, and 165, respectively the Kol L-chain is of the Mcg isotype. With the proteins Mcg, Mot, Bur, Loc and Mem six myeloma-derived amino-acid sequences of the same isotype are known. The amino-acid sequence of the N-terminal variable part is characteristic of subgroup 1. This contribution completes the primary structure of IgG1 Kol.     

Cell degeneration during early development of hymenopteran olfactory sensilla

The imaginal pore plates of Hymenoptera apocrita so far examined embody five or six envelope cells respectively. In early developmental stages, however, supernumerary envelope cells have been found. The results are discussed in the context of cell death as a developmental phenomenon.     

THE DISSOCIATION CONSTANTS OF RACEMIC PROLINE AND CERTAIN RELATED COMPOUNDS

1. It has been experimentally shown that breaking of the pyrrolidine ring of proline by nitrous acid is not a factor of sufficient magnitude to account for the amino nitrogen which is usually found in proline preparations. 2. A method for the preparation of racemic proline is described. The product was found to be free from amino nitrogen. 3. The dissociation constants of racemic proline and of certain structurally related compounds were determined.
